Asus backs Blu-ray Disc and Acer joins HD DVD supporting both formats

Blu-ray and HD DVD
Asus has just announced it will be backing Blu-ray with a multi-format DVD writer that also has the ability to play BD media, the internal BC-1205PT Blu-ray Drive features DVD-RAM writing and CD-R/RW, a burn speed of 12x for DVD±R/RW media and only 4x speed with dual-layer discs.

Sadly this product is let down by not being able to write BD-R or BD-RE media.

RIDATA Smart Flash Cards

http://www.techrific.com.au/images/ridata_sd_4gb_blog.jpg
Compact flash cards are slowly becoming a thing of the past, being replaced by SD cards, but there are still alot of cameras that rely on the older format. So RIDATA is looking out for you. They just introduced what they call the SMART compact flash card.

They are SMART because the have a new internal data monitoring system that ensures you never experience any data loss. It’s nice to have alot of storage in your camera, but not a pleasant feeling when you lose an important file. The cards also have embedded error correction code (ECC) which I believe is a fancy way of saying that it has “back up power Captain”, should something truly go wrong.

The ClickPad features as well two backlight modes.

Other features of this mini-keyboard include dedicated hotkeys for media players and Web browsers, page up and page down buttons, which allow people to scroll when surfing the Web as well as zoom in and out of documents and images and a row of media controls that allow people to adjust volume and easily play, pause, stop, fast forward and rewind. New Arrival-Archos 105

Archos, maker of a number of cool, higher-end media players, is now bringing its smaller 5th generation Archos 105 to the U.S. adding to the already-high competition present in this mini media player market.

It comes in colors of black, red and silver and in only a single capacity configuration of 2GB. Inside the super-slim 0.3″ frame the player supports playback of MP3, WMA and WAV audio files. What really makes this player is the fact that it also takes advantage of a 1.8” OLED display at 160 x 128 dpi with 262,000 colors to play WMV files so you can take your recorded TV episodes with you. And of course you can view still JPEG’s with it, too.

An internal rechargeable battery gives the little player 18 hours of playback for audio and the people at Archos are thinking ahead by giving it upgradeable firmware through downloads from the website. The overall dimensions of the 105 are 1.8″ x 3.3″ x 0.3″ and it weighs only 1.8 ounces, making it verny compact and reasonable media player for the $90 price tag it has on Amazon.

HP Bluetooth headphones with noise-cancelling

HP Bluetooth headphones
Many products hit the FCC weekly and some get through unnoticed which is not what happened here with HP’s Bluetooth noise-cancelling headphones.

As far as we know they have not been featured at CES and have only turned up on the FCC which engadget picked up on, the specs are not revolutionarily which might just be why they were not taken to the consumer electronics show.

One of the best and simplest to be shown is the Navigon 7100, as these Sat-Nav sticks to what a GPS is intended to do and that is to navigate you to where you need to go, none of the little extras like MP3 players or even Bluetooth.Do not think for one minute that the Navigon 7100 GPS, this really is a superb sat-nav that will get you to wear you need to go in the most efficient way possible. One great feature on this GPS system is how it lets you know what lane you need to be in if you need to take an exit of the highway.

Creative Zen Stone:Incredibly simple, simply incredible

Are you looking for a no-nonsense MP3 player? An incredibly titchy device that sounds as good as it looks, clobbers its closest rival price-wise and doesn't tie you to a particular piece of software (begins with 'i' ends with 's')? Well look no further because you've just found one. Laydeez and gentlemen, introducing the Zen Stone. This funky gizmo is a genuine challenger to the all-conquering iGods, particularly that screenless one whose name rhymes with ruffle. No, not the truffle, the shu…
With its 1GB capacity the Stone is capable of storing up to 500 songs - more than enough for all you joggers, gym nuts and commuters. And when you fancy swapping tunes the Stone's standard mini-USB connection makes it a doddle. Simply drag and drop files straight in or manage your music using Creative Media Lite. You can even drag and drop tracks from another computer - no drivers or downloads required.

And how about all those talk shows, college broadcasts and comedy stations. The choice is endless and growing all the time. The trouble is, in order to listen to all this marvellous ear-candy you need a computer. And who can be bothered lugging one of those around? Not us. That's why we love the Revo Pico WiFi Radio. This stylish, take-anywhere wireless is the world's first portable internet radio and automatically links to any broadband WiFi connection to stream both live and 'Listen Again' internet broadcasts.Better still it features a rechargeable battery ( up to 8 hours on one charge ), making it supremely portable. MP3 players are great for enjoying music in the comfort of your own head. But what if you want to fill the entire room with digital ditties? That's right, you plug your player into one of those fancy-pants miniature speaker systems. But which one? Well, tech press experts seem to agree that the chic Aego M System is right up there with the very finest. Indeed, What Hi Fi gave this smart set of speakers a maximum 5 Star rating.

Casual listeners will be looking for bass bins behind the sofa and tweeters under the table when they hear this gorgeously engineered system in action. It really is that good!

Soundbug:Turn Everthing into a virtual speaker

This British-designed innovation is about the size of a computer mouse and turns any hard surface into a speaker. Plug it into your music device, stick the sucker to a door, window or desk, hit play and prepare to be amazed when your surface of choice starts singing back at you. If you stick it to a window or door and then go outside the sound is equally as good on the other side. Its not going to burst your eardrums or throw out a dirty pumping bass but considering its diminutive size its certainly enough to keep you entertained if your on the move. Ideal for the nomad who likes to travel light - stick it to your hotel room mirror, window, wardrobe to enjoy your tunes.

Sensible Soccer 2 Player Plug 'n' Play

You can keep your unfathomable footie sims, with their ludicrously complex controls. The Mega Drive classic Sensible Soccer is back, and this time it's been shoehorned into a smart two-player plug 'n' play system. Back of the net!The Sensible Soccer Plug 'n' Play plugs straight into your TV, allowing you to bend and spray the ball within minutes. No consoles or cartridges required! But that's not to say there's no depth to Sensible Soccer. No way Jose; this two-player baby is deeper than a Cantona (or should we say "Iric Centona") press statement because you can take charge of your favourite European club, Highbury, Milano or Manchester in a whole host of cup and league competitions. What's more, each player is skilled in a different department, so Tuny Edams and Frenco Beresi are best at the back while Peul Mirson and Merco Ven Besten will score goals all day for fun.

Pinnacle SoundBridge HomeMusic

You have to feel sorry for that flashy stereo system sitting in your living room. Not because it's gathering dust but because all your decent music is trapped inside your computer. And the only things poor Mr Stereo gets to play with nowadays are old CDs and the odd cassette you find down the back of the sofa. A shame, as your stereo probably has a set of speakers that make the ones on your computer sound like tinny tins from Tinnyville. And that goes for the other stereos around your house
as well.

So wouldn't it be good if you could wirelessly stream your digital music anywhere in the house? With the idiot-proof Pinnacle SoundBridge HomeMusic you can do exactly that and more. This stylish box of tricks is a wireless network music player that connects to your stereo or powered speakers via your WiFi network. Perfect for music lovers bored of boogie-ing in front of the computer!

Can you?More than just a cursory tweak of the winning formula, Bop It Extreme 2 represents a quantum leap in rhythmical gaming design. But wait, there's more...much more! So as the tempo ramps up - try to keep up!ou can Bop-It solo and hone your skills and coordination in silence without driving your house or office-mates mad thanks to the handy headphone jack. (Alternatively, you could drive your neighbours insane by plugging Bop It into your Hi-Fi and cranking it up to eleven.)Much more fun than solo Bopping, however, is to go one-on-one with a friend, or get a group together and see who is the Bop-meister. Preferably in the pub. With three games in two modes there are six ways to play. Bop On!

Laserpod

Remember the nebulous, psychedelic sky from Flash Gordon? (We're talking 'Gordon's Alive?' Flash, not the rickety old B/W series). Well imagine looking at it through a kaleidoscope from inside Jim Morrison's altered state of mind and you'd begin to understand the mesmerizing beauty of the Laserpod. Yes indeed, light lovers; using the latest in laser, LED and crystal optics, the incredible Laserpod brings science and nature together to create ever-changing organic light forms of profound beauty. At least that's what it says on the box. But in this case, we'd have to agree.

Micro Mosquito Helicopter

If you thought chucking paper planes around the office was entertaining, wait till you see this bug-like chopper in action. The world's smallest fully-functional RC 'copter is a triumph of aeronautical design, and it's so incredibly manoeuvrable you'll be performing desktop fly-bys before you can say "Noel Edmonds".Do you know the name of the fastest pheasant plucker in the world? No, neither do we. But we can tell you the name of the world's smallest, lightest, quietest, fully-functional RC helicopter: it's called the Micro Mosquito.Speaking of ornithology, the Micro Mosquito is currently ruffling feathers throughout the world of RC aviation, as it is one of the most incredible flying machines ever to take to the skies. Weighing in at a mere 15g, this bug-like indoor 'copter is so small it can take off and land in the palm of your hand. Amazing! Thanks to its counter-rotating blades the Mosquito is astoundingly manoeuvrable. Once you get the hang of its twin-toggle, digital proportional transmitter you'll be buzzing around like a pro pilot. Up, down, hover, forwards, backwards, left, right - you name it. We just landed ours on the boss's head having taken off from the water cooler. Try doing that in a proper chopper. (Don't, you might decapitate someone).Ready to fly in the smallest of spaces straight out of the box, the Mosquito is powered via a charger that doubles up as a launch pad. A 45 minute juice-up will give you a full seven minutes or more of flying time - enough to hover around the ceiling, fly by the coffee table and buzz past the telly. This innovative triumph of micro-engineering even features a pair of green glowing 'eyes' - perfect for putting the willies up the cat when night falls.
