Cell Broadband Engine now on a 45nm process
IBM revealed yesterday at the International Solid State Circuits Conference (ISSCC) in San Francisco of plans to migrate the production of the Cell Broadband Engine processor to the 45nm high-k process. Currently the Cell Broadband processor is found in the latest PlayStation 3 hardware which is manufactured on IBM’s 65nm SOI process.
This reduction in size will further reduce power consumption by 40% and the die size by about 34% thereby reducing production costs by huge scale.
